Reminds me of that scene in Walking Small where Plankton is speaking through SpongeBob's holes.

Did you paint over the lines too?

I hopped over to your blog too just now and saw that you use Art Rage! Are there others in the industry using it too? I remember years ago when it was in version 1.1 and free to download. It sure has come a long way....

Nyahaha, I've always loved the still shots in Spongebob where you can see the paint strokes. X3

I probably don't have to say it, but I will anyway. Wonderful work!

Hey, Sherm! There's a page in the Nickelodeon book with various Spongebob facial expressions that are painted a lot like this. Are those yours?

You mean that big fat Nickelodeon hardcover? None of my stuff made it into that book, but when I paint these covers, I'm emulating SpongeBob's original art director Nick Jennings' style. He created that loose, off-register brushy look, and it's been a lot of fun to play with that style!

I sure appreciate that...I have to fight the impulse to make it look polished...I always like the results more when the paint gets a little ragged and sloppy. Thanks again! --Sherm

Wow neat. I wondered what programs you guys use to color the production art. I did a whole Spongebob pic in Illustrator, that was really hard.

Ever since 2003, I always use Illustrator to ink my comics and covers. If you're interested I have a whole bunch of video tutorials on my CartoonSNAP blog...just search for the word Adobe Illustrator. [link]

Wow thanks. I was drawing with the pen tool and creating them to outlines, which was more work then needed but once you got it, you can have full control over how thick or thin you want the lineart. Too bad I'm in Linux now, WINE has trouble running Ill but I can find other vector programs out there.
